One step forward Two steps back

Last night I decided to check on my home built ankle details. I quickly realized that something was horribly wrong. I built the ankle details 2mm too big... UG!!! this means I have to shave off 2mm off the side of the detail.

I think I'm going to go back to smoothing out my legs.. um.. R2 legs. :-D

Parts on Order

Well, my wife has given the green light to getting some parts more for R2. I have ordered a styrene skirt and some dome parts. Last night I received an email from Keith at www.resinparts.com confirming the price of my requested parts. I guess this means I have to start cutting that dang dome.

I have to confess that up until now the build has been moving along really well. I've had my slow days but all in all its coming along nicely. I think tonight I'll finish my sanding of the center leg and prep it for painting. It would be great to have on thing completed :-)

Final Gluing and Screwing

I've finally glued the last piece onto my R2 legs. The final piece was a 1/4 inch piece of MDF.

My brother expressed a real interest in building his own R2. I think working on his R2 will be even more fun then working on the first. We'll be able to avoid the issues I had with the first and will be hopefully able to pump out the pieces even quicker.

R2 Family

My R2 Family.

My R2 5 year old.

Beanies and Sweater knit by my Mother. Way to go MOM!!! She really is a knitting machine.

Centre Leg Glazing Putty

I've been putting the glazing putty on the centre leg. A little sanding then some more gooping sanding.. gooping.. and on and on it goes. I'm hoping that I'll have it smooth enough for paint before the conference April. Keep your fingers crossed :-)

Gluing and Screwing!

Before I started gluing & screwing I finished squaring off the under shoulder details. You can see the before and after below.

I think the legs are coming together nicely. I finished gluing the legs and have started sanding. Gluing sucks! There I said it. I can't stand glue! It sucks and I suck at gluing. So, I've added screws to my legs. This will provide additional strength to the bond.. i think.. :-) ( I counter sunk the screws in places where they will be covered by other leg details.)

After the glue dried I decided it was time to perform a test fit of the pipes.
